mission peak

Mission Peak is one of the more strenuous hikes I've done (right up there with Half Dome and Wayna Picchu).  The trailhead is about a 20 minute drive from my house, so it's a convenient place to go hike.

The round-trip distance is about 6.6 miles, which takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to hike at a brisk pace.  The elevation gain is almost 2,500 feet.  At the top of the Peak is a pole that people gather around and take pictures with.  There are two restrooms available: One at the trailhead, and one three-quarters of the way to the peak.  The only source of water is at the trailhead.

The incline is strenuous.  In the summer, water is necessary. In the winter and spring, the Peak can be quite cold.  The parking lot at the trailhead fills up with cars early in the morning, but there is usually adequate parking on the residential streets below the parking lot.
